The Conservative government announced during the Christmas break that Canada would continue to hold talks with the U.S. in the New Year in regards to, what else, security. Of course, true to form, Harper conveyed little new information to the media, which also failed to ask the tough questions as usual.
You will remember that the SPP(Security and Prosperity Partnership) agreement between the U.S., Mexico and Canada was initiated under Paul Martin in 2003 and continued for at least 5 years, to “integrate and harmonize” the polices and laws of the three countries. Most of this planning and scheming was carried out in secret, with no press permitted to attend, and with wishy-washy press conferences like the one in Montebello in 2008. When questioned about the expense and content of these SPP meetings, the leaders of the three countries made jokes, basically spitting in the eyes of Canadian taxpayers.
Fortunately, enough people must have opposed about the SPP because officially it was scrapped. Well, not exactly.
I believe that the goals of the SPP are still on the table, but using the old ‘bait and switch’ tactics, the government no longer has to explain itself, if in fact it ever did. Resistance to the SPP was quite vocal on the Internet, and people educated themselves. When reading the paper, you are reading what the corporate world wants you to believe, and at this point let’s just say that our world is controlled by the corporations + government. Democracy is an illusion; governments routinely make promises and then break them, writing their own laws and regulations with total abandon- except of course, during elections when the taxpayer becomes king.
So, don’t believe what the paper says about an enhanced security perimeter which will ‘enhance trade’ between Canada and the United States. This is simply a smokescreen for what the Americans really want.
Nothing will enhance trade when a country is broke, and that’s what the United States faces. With over 50 million people unemployed, millions of foreclosures, millions on food stamps, municipalities and even states on track to go bankrupt in 2011, you cannot ‘enhance trade’ when your trading partners are broke!
Read between the lines. The Americans want to take over our border services, border policing, intelligence services and information gathering. ‘Security’ is the code word for takeover.
The Americans have for years wanted to access and exploit our natural resources; such as oil and natural gas and especially our water that will be the global battleground of the 21st century.
Surely we have learned from the Mulroney sell-out of Canada in 1989, such that today 60% of our natural gas goes automatically to the United States under NAFTA, even if it means we freeze to death in an emergency. That agreement has brought wealth to the elite but has wreaked long term devastation on the lives of the middle class.
The so-called security discussions and the anticipated bi-lateral signing between Harper and Obama in January, 2011 will be nothing more than the start of another grand sell-out of Canada’s sovereignty. Harper is being disingenuous when he says that there will be no “harmonization of policies” because clearly there will be. Are we to believe that the work of thousands of public servants preparing to harmonize departments such as: immigration, intelligence, natural resources, transport, agriculture, environment, finance, etc. since the beginning of the SPP agreement in 2003, will now be scrapped? It’s not going down that way.
The agenda is still the same. Regional economic unions around the world are the goal, followed by a central banking system, one world army(U.N)- basically, a New World Order controlled by the corporate elite. It has been stated as goal by countless people in the last 50 years, and is characterized by huge disparities between the rich and the poor, in a system that eliminates basic human rights and freedoms in a police state environment. Think “China” and that’s where our leaders want to take us.
If we understand that the top of a pyramid cannot be supported without the bottom of the pyramid, then we understand that the few cannot control the many if we open our minds and exercise our will.
I know we all want peace and fulfillment in 2011, but it comes at the cost of being vigilant and demanding from government the kind of future we want for our children and grandchildren.
